At least 28 people dead and multiple wounded after two explosions rocked Istanbul’s Ataturk airport.

Turkey’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag has confirmed the tragic news.

It is being reported that the two suicide bombers are responsible for the attack and were also killed. According to Minister Bozdag, one attacker “first opened fire with a Kalashnikov then detonated himself” at the airport entrance.

Police fired shots to try to stop the attackers just before they reached a security checkpoint at the arrivals hall of the Ataturk airport but they blew themselves up, one of the officials said.

Two bombs exploded. One of them was located just outside the terminal on the pavement, the other was at the security gate at the entrance to the airport.

According to the minister, authorities said that no bomb was detonated within the airport building itself.

As at press time, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
