Robbers attack a convoy of the Central Bank of Nigeria bullion vans who got caught in a cross-fire.

The robbery which occurred at dawn, Tuesday, August 16, along the Hawan Kibo of the Jos – Abuja road saw the robbers kill one mobile policeman and another officer attached to the bullion van.

The vans and its escorts of armed mobile policemen left Jos and were transiting through Hawan Kibo – enroute Abuja – where they got caught in a cross-fire between the robbers and a patrol team from Plateau state.

While donned in military uniforms, the robbers had emerged from their hiding place in a bush and attacked a patrol van causing a shoot-out with the patrol team and its entourage owned by the Plateau State security outfit, “Operation Rainbow”, killing one of their officers.

During the fracas, the Central Bank convoy ran into the armed robbers who turned and fired on the van, killing one of the officers attached to it.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna, confirmed the incident adding that although he hasn’t been fully briefed by the Riyom divisional police, he can confirm the deaths of some members of the police but isn’t certain about the number.

The CBN bullion vans and its escorts are presently situated with the Federal Road Safety office in Riyom.
