Untitled Wolverine film

Hugh Jackman has donned Wolverine’s sideburns and claws in eight X-Men movies now, but for his ninth and final appearance as the hairy mutant, expect a “very different” kind of movie.

Jackman has wrapped filming on the third Wolverine film (which is still untitled), and although details are scarce, he did give a small update to Entertainment Tonight, saying that director Jim Mangold is currently in the editing bay. He also added that we should expect more details about the film in the near future.

“There’s going to be some stuff coming out in the next week or so,” Jackman said. “That’s all I’ll say. I’m not good. I’m the kind of person who tells everybody everything. Basically, it’s going to be very different. Very different in tone and hopefully different to anything we’ve done.”

Rumors have suggested that the new Wolverine movie will focus on the “Old Man Logan” comic storyline, which follows an older Wolverine in the post-apocalyptic future. Producer Simon Kinberg has also echoed Jackman’s comments about the tone, confirming that the movie will be R-rated and “kind of like a Western.” We also know that Patrick Stewart is back on board as Professor X — and that’s about it. But if Jackman’s comments are any indication, we should expect to hear more (or even see a trailer) soon.

Wolverine 3 is set for release on March 3, 2017. See the full interview with Jackman at Entertainment Tonight.
