Nigeria’s sick President Muhammadu Buhari has released an audio recording of him giving an Eid greeting.

He is currently being treated in London for an undisclosed illness, and this is the first time Nigerians have heard his voice for seven weeks.

The audio message was aimed at debunking rumours that the president was suffering from memory loss and a speech impairment, This Day newspaper reports.

The message was recorded in Hausa, but Mr Buhari’s office also released a text version of his greeting:

I again, appeal to all Nigerians to avoid reckless statements or actions against our fellow countrymen. We should all resolve to live in peace and unity in our great country, which is the envy of many less endowed nations.”

There are rumours that the voice in the voice message might not be the real voice of the President; Also, many Nigerians have come out to criticize the Hausa language he used in the voice message to Nigerians owing to the fact that the official language of the Country is English
