Power Season 3 Episode 2 Preview Tommy Ghost

Power‘s Felipe Lobos may be locked up, presumed dead and forced to wear undignified orange prison scrubs, but the man is still jefe of a thriving drug operation. So when he gives a command— such as in the season premiere, when he ordered aspiring distribution head Tommy to off his best friend/former business partner — you’d better listen.

So moving into this Sunday’s episode (Starz, 9/8c), the question is: Will Tommy become Ghost… by killing Ghost? Can he even do it?

“I think Tommy could pull the trigger on Ghost,” star Joseph Sikora tells us, admitting that murdering his surrogate brother would take “Herculean strength.”

Overcoming Tommy’s “extreme love and loyalty to Ghost, his appreciation, admiration and respect” after so many years would take work, Sikora adds, chuckling as he throws a little shade at Omari Hardwick’s character, who is in the process of leaving the drug game behind to become a legit nightclub owner. “Ghost can compartmentalize; [but] Tommy doesn’t forget.”

The men’s dynamic is one of the season’s major threads, showrunner Courtney Kemp says. “But part of that Tommy/Ghost thread has to do with their relationship when they’re apart, and how they navigate being apart.”

As we saw last week, that navigation can easily go off track, especially on the part of the hotheaded Mr. Egan; sure, Tommy had the savvy to smooth distribution snafus with his best customers, but he also threw two guys off a roof — in the showiest manner possible — just to prove a point.

“Tommy’s not stupid. He’s simple. There’s a difference,” Sikora says. “Tommy’s not a tactician. Tommy’s tactic is to shoot them in the face. Say what he feels. He’s a breath of fresh air.”

And, he adds, just because Tommy’s not likely to start wearing Ghost’s custom suits doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be comfortable in his shoes.

“Don’t forget: Tommy did all of the establishing and coordinating of all the distributors himself, because Ghost was dealing with the club,” Sikora says. “He’s already in a leadership position — but you have to have that mindset, that mentality. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else is going to believe in you, either.”
