Speaking through the movement’s national director of information, Sunday Okereafor, Chukwu was quoted by The Sun as saying that the series of agitations across the country, were enough to get it split. While wondering if the country was prepared for another civil war before it would think of secession, he added:
“In the country now, we have Boko Haram insurgents in the north-east who do not want western education, but want everybody to embrace Islam, killing and causing havoc in the entire geo-political zone.”
“Also, Fulani herdsmen are terrorising the entire country, killing, kidnapping and raping women at will, and destroying farmlands without government doing something.”
“In the Niger Delta, we have the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), whose activities are akin to the (MEND), holding the nation’s economy in ransom.
“In south-east, MASSOB, in its non-violent campaign, has sustained the struggle. “With all these agitations, how can it be said the the unity of the country is not negotiable?
“It needs to be negotiated because we cannot deceive ourselves that the country is one.”
He however said MASSOB was non-violent and apolitical. It is known across the country that apart from MASSOB, there are various other groups agitating for secession. One of such groups, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), recently insisted that Biafra is not just an Igbo project but covers the entire south-east and south-south regions.
