FIFA announce their Puskas Award list for 2016!
The Puskas Award 2016
FIFA’s Puskas Award for 2016 has turned into a key facet of the world governing body’s social marketing at the moment.
The reason for this is due to the fact that the Ballon d’Or has returned to France Football, which means FIFA will run their own awards for 2016.
The Puskas Award allows FIFA to run their own award, which undoubtedly only belongs to them.
The fifth year of the Puskas Award
The Puskas Award has been running for five years now. Wendell Lira, now a FIFA gamer, was the surprise winner in 2015, beating out favourite Leo Messi.
(101 Great Goals is the first website on the world wide web to publish this list – don’t ask us how we got our hands on it before FIFA!)
Messi once again makes the cut this year, as does his Barcelona team mate Neymar.
The third most well known player on the list is Saul Niguez, for his terrific goal against Bayern Munich.
Where are the English goals?
We suspect Mohd Faiz Subri’s spectacular free-kick has a big chance of winning. Especially with Malaysia behind a quite brilliant free-kick. Although the popular vote may well go to Neymar or Leo Messi.
It seems unlikely that Hal Robson Kanu – the only goal from Euro 2016 included in the list – will not get the requisite votes from Wales fans.
(How did Xherdan Shaqiri’s goal for Switzerland v Poland not make it?!)
And, once again, there are no goals from English football – e.g. Dele Alli v Crystal Palace and Dimitri Payet v Middlesbrough.
