An attack is under way on a high security prison in Niger, Radio France International (RFI) reports.
Jihadists from Nigeria’s militant Islamist group Boko Haram and al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb are said to be held at the prison, but it is unclear where the assault is aimed at freeing them, reports the BBC’s Himadou Amadou from the capital, Niamey.
Security reinforcements have been sent to the prison in Koutou Kale, some 50km (30 miles) from Niamey, after fighting was reported at daybreak, according to RFI.
We’ll bring you more details as they come in.
