Earl Valentine posts the video as he leaves the scene, saying he loved his ex-wife but she “deserved what she had coming”.
A man posted a chilling Facebook confession after shooting his ex-wife and son – before turning the gun on himself.
Earl Valentine kicked in the door of Keisha Valentine’s home in Norlina, North Carolina, before shooting her and 15-year-old Earl Jr in the chest.
His son died but Ms Valentine survived and remains in a critical condition.
In the video posted live as he drove from the scene, Valentine said his ex “deserved what she had coming”.
“She lied on me, had warrants taken out on me,” he said in the posting. “She drug me all the way down to nothing.
“I loved my wife, but she deserved what she had coming.
“I know a lot of y’all are going to be disappointed in me, but it was something that had to be done.”
Norlina Police Chief Taylor Bartholomew said Valentine shot his son after trying to help his mother.
“We actually got a call from the young victim with a dying declaration that his father had shot him and his father also shot his mother,” he said.
“It appeared the boy tried to intervene on his mother’s behalf and was also hit in the chest.”
Mr Bartholomew said he later spoke to Valentine on the phone, and described him as “cold and callous”.
Police launched a cross-state manhunt and said Valentine visited his father’s grave in Virginia before they traced him to a hotel in Columbia, South Carolina.
He was found dead in his room of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
