‘Views’ now holds the third-longest run at No. 1 by a hip-hop album

Drake is still sitting on the CN Tower, atop the world.

Billboard  reports Drizzy’s latest album, Views has claimed the No. 1 spot in their Billboard 200 album chart for the ninth week in a row. Much of the buzz came from streaming, of course, where Drake pulled in 67,000 equivalent album units. Views peddled 25,000 copies in traditional sales metrics.

The run on his fourth studio album is putting Drake in rarified commercial success. The 29-year-old rapper now holds the third-longest run at No. 1 by a hip-hop album, surpassing Eminem’s blockbuster The Marshall Mathers LP (eight weeks). It’s still a big climb to reach MC Hammer’s Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em (21 weeks) and To The Extreme by Vanilla Ice (16 weeks).

Views has posted the longest run at No. 1 for a male artist since Usher’s fourth record, Confessions, in 2004. In the last 10 years, only five albums occupied the No. 1 place for at least nine weeks: 25 and21 by Adele; Fearless and 1989 by Taylor Swift; and the Frozensoundtrack.

The Billboard Hot 100 also has Drake’s fingerprints all over it. “One Dance” has resided at the top spot for seven total weeks.
