Spread the love

Relating with a child is a task that is very challenging, although most parents take it very lightly.

At every stage in the life of a growing child, it is important for parents to adopt different methods in dealings with their child(ren). We would examine a few steps:

*KNOW YOUR CHILD IS HUMAN:

Often times parents treat their child(ren) anyway they seem fit forgetting that the child is also human. Most parents scold their children for making simple mistakes and condemn their child(ren) when they need to be embraced and this creates distance between the parent and the child(ren).

*BE MORE OF A FRIEND THAN A PARENT:

This creates room for openness. A friend shares their pains, their bad times and your happy moments. Everyone needs someone to confide in likewise children no matter the age. Children want to be listened to without fear of being given the beating of their lives or being yelled at.

*UNDERSTAND THEIR MOODS:

Just as adults have bad days and mood swings, children also do. Times like this, parents are expected to calmly approach their child(ren) to find out what is wrong rather than scold them  for being human.

*RESPECT:

Respect they say is reciprocal. A child also deserves respect and is entitled to have private moments. When you give a child respect as a parent the child(ren) respects you more. Little words like sorry, please and thank you also works like magic. As a parent, don’t feel too big to apologize to your child(ren) when you do something wrong.

CARE AND ATTENTION:

This is the most essential responsibility of a parent. Lack of care and attention creates a gap in the heart of a child. This gap leaves the child in search for care and attention. The yearn for care and attention makes them vulnerable and they become prey to anyone able to show the smallest level of care and attention.

ADVICE: Parents are advised to take proper steps in relating with their children to avoid pushing them out. Care for your children, provide for them as much as you can, be open to them, respect them, be there for them in good and bad times even when everything doesn’t seem right with them.

Note: Taking care of your children and loving them is not ALL ABOUT MONEY, money is just a little out of the big ocean of things you need to do for a child..

Parents are the best part of a child’s when they know how to relate with them.
