Paris is set to have it’s first nudist park after town hall officials voted in favor of the plans on Monday night.
The park could open as soon as next summer, AFP reports, and two main wooded areas on the outskirts of the city, the Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes, are being considered as possible options.
Public newdity is illegal in Paris unless it’s taking place in specified areas with a £13,000 fine or up to a year in prison for defaulters. The city already has a pool, the Roger Le-Gall in the 12th arrondissement that allows newdity three times a week but many nudists have been asking for larger spaces to be able to be free from clothes.
Paris municipal council was to vote on the matter on Monday, but even before then, deputy mayor Bruno Julliard had said the town hall would back the idea. “I’m for it and I believe the mayor of Paris is too. So we’re going to do it” Mr Julliard said.
“There were 150 of us on Wednesday night,” a member of the Nudist Association of Paris (ANP) said, The group’s 372 members have had to do with renting out private venues to be able to hang out in their birthday suit, including restaurants, bowling venues, spas and even archery clubs.
