Andy Carroll tried his hardest to salvage West Ham’s extended housewarming party but in the end their glamour friendly with Juventus ended in defeat.
West Ham were two behind early on in the game but Carroll forced his side back into the match with a goal either side of half-time, only for substitute Simone Zaza to hit the winner with five minutes remaining.
The match had an exhibition feel to it, but both managers fielded strong sides with Slaven Bilic aware his first Premier League test — against Antonio Conte’s Chelsea, no less — awaits a week on Monday.
