Former Ghana international Malik Jabir has blamed the poor standard of football in the country’s domestic league on players having too much secx – claiming the players cannot resist the nation’s “beautiful young girls” and so they miss out on vital sleep and training.

The ex-Asante Kotoko striker, now the current coach, told Kumasi city radio station Ultimate FM:

“A lot of today’s players cannot play 90 minutes because they get so tired easily.

“And you know why? Because they don’t sleep enough and don’t train enough and they engage in too much secx.

“There are beautiful young girls in Ghana and they won’t leave them alone.”

He explained that players struggle to manage their time properly and has urged them to find a balance between football and secx.

He added: “There is time for secx and time for football, but if you mix the two you will never reach the top.”

The ex-Asante Kotoko footballer is not the first to broach the subject, with former Germany boss Berti Vogts banning his players from having secx before games during the 1990s.

Scientists have found little evidence to show that secx itself – even in the immediate hours before an event – makes athletes tired or affects them physiologically in other ways.

But secx and looking for it might affect the amount of sleep or rest sports-men and women get, physically or mentally.
